We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to support and strengthen a large-scale backup environment in Utah. This contract position is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can bring structure, stability, and technical leadership to day-to-day backup operations while improving the overall reliability of data protection services. The role focuses on hands-on administration of Commvault and related enterprise backup technologies, with an emphasis on reducing operational risk through stronger processes, cleaner configurations, and well-maintained documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily administration, monitoring, and support of the existing Commvault backup platform to maintain dependable system performance.
- Identify operational weaknesses within the backup environment and implement practical improvements that increase consistency and service reliability.
- Review current configurations, policies, and job activity to resolve inefficiencies, strengthen protection coverage, and improve backup success rates.
- Create and refine technical documentation, operating procedures, and support guidelines to establish a more organized and sustainable backup practice.
- Troubleshoot backup failures, restore issues, and platform-related incidents, driving timely resolution and minimizing disruption to the business.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to promote stronger operational standards and provide guidance on enterprise backup best practices.
- Assess areas of risk across the data protection environment and recommend corrective actions that improve readiness for future platform changes or migration efforts.
- Support compliance-focused backup operations by aligning processes with data protection requirements such as GDPR where applicable.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in systems engineering or infrastructure support with a strong focus on enterprise backup administration.
- Demonstrated expertise working with Commvault in complex production environments.
- Solid understanding of enterprise backup technologies, recovery workflows, retention strategies, and data protection operations.
- Experience improving technical documentation, operational procedures, and system configuration standards.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve backup platform issues in a fast-paced enterprise setting.
- Familiarity with regulatory or governance considerations related to data protection, including GDPR.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with technical and business teams.
