About the Role We are seeking a talented, detail-oriented Conversation Designer to join our team for a 4 to 6-week project sprint with potential for extension. In this role, you will be responsible for crafting natural, engaging, and efficient conversational flows for AI-driven assistants, chatbots, and interactive voice/text experiences.
Working closely with product managers, UX designers, and AI engineers, you will bridge human language with technical systems - turning complex user intents into clear, helpful, and brand-aligned dialogue flows.
Key Responsibilities
- Conversational Flow & Dialogue Design: Craft end-to-end conversation flows, turn-by-turn dialogues, user journeys, and fallback scenarios for AI chatbots, virtual assistants, or interactive voice systems.
- Intent Mapping & System Logic: Collaborate with engineering teams to define user intents, entities, sample utterances, prompt logic, and repair strategies to handle ambiguous or out-of-scope inputs gracefully.
- Persona & Voice Guidelines: Develop and maintain consistent voice, tone, and personality guidelines across all conversational touchpoints to reflect brand identity.
- Prototyping & Testing: Build sample scripts, interactive prototypes, and wireframes to simulate conversation flows and conduct user testing/review sessions.
- Optimization & Analysis: Review conversation logs, analytics, and drop-off points during project sprints to rapidly iterate and improve response accuracy and resolution rates.
Qualifications & Key Requirements
- Experience: 2–4+ years of dedicated experience in Conversation Design, Voice User Interface (VUI) Design, or UX Writing for conversational AI interfaces.
- Tools & Platforms: Proficiency with conversation mapping and prototyping tools (e.g., Voiceflow, Botmock, Figma, Visio, or Miro) and familiarity with AI platforms/frameworks (e.g., Dialogflow, Rasa, Lex, or custom LLM frameworks).
- Linguistic & UX Fundamentals: Exceptional written communication skills with a deep understanding of natural language patterns, conversational mechanics, context management, and information architecture.
- Location & On-Site Availability: Must be based in or near Atlanta, GA or Nashville, TN and able to work in-office 1 day per week at one of our regional hub offices (remote for the remainder of the 30-hour weekly schedule).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing for LLM-powered/generative AI systems and prompt design.
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards for digital conversational interfaces.
- Background in linguistics, technical writing, human-computer interaction (HCI), or cognitive science.
