We are looking for a highly organized Calendar Clerk to support a busy law firm in Sacramento, California. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who is meticulous with deadlines, comfortable working in a legal environment, and committed to keeping case activity accurate and up to date. In this role, you will help ensure attorneys and support staff have clear visibility into upcoming events, filings, and required follow-up actions. You will also provide light front-office support by helping manage incoming calls as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain the firm’s master calendar by entering and revising court dates, filing deadlines, hearings, motions, and related case events.
- Track trial settings, continuances, and all deadline adjustments that result from schedule changes.
- Coordinate deposition scheduling and keep all calendaring records current when appointments are added, rescheduled, or removed.
- Create reminders and follow-up alerts for important litigation activities, including notices, subpoenas, and meet-and-confer obligations.
- Prepare recurring calendar summaries and team reports so legal staff can plan for upcoming matters.
- Communicate with requesting team members to verify that new entries and updates have been completed accurately.
- Review unclear or incomplete scheduling information proactively and raise questions before deadlines are entered.
- Stay informed on California court rules, date-calculation requirements, and updates to calendaring tools used by the firm.
- Assist with answering and routing incoming telephone calls to support front desk coverage when needed.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a law firm environment, with direct calendaring or docket management experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of California civil litigation deadlines, court procedures, and date computation rules.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy across a high volume of time-sensitive entries.
- Proven organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple deadlines across active matters.
- Proficiency with legal calendaring software such as CompuLaw or Abacus.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Outlook and Excel in a workplace setting.
- Experience with case management platforms such as Filevine is a plus.
- Effective communication skills and the judgment to clarify unclear instructions rather than make assumptions.
