A rare opportunity to grow into AP leadership with a 100% employee-owned company.
Are you an experienced Accounts Payable professional ready to take the next step in your career? Our client is seeking an Assistant Accounts Payable Manager to join its growing accounting team.
This is more than a traditional AP role. You'll work closely with the current AP Manager and Accounting leadership, help oversee a high-volume AP operation, and develop the skills needed to step into the AP Manager position as part of a planned retirement transition.
Why consider this opportunity?
- Career progression: A defined opportunity to develop toward the AP Manager role.
- Employee ownership: 100% employee-owned, giving employees an opportunity to share in the company's success through its ESOP.
- Competitive compensation: $75K–$85K base salary plus a discretionary bonus.
- Growing business: Join an expanding construction company with a strong project pipeline and continued growth.
- Leadership exposure: Supervise and support an AP Assistant while working directly with the Accounting Manager, CFO, and project teams.
- Comprehensive benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus a 401(k) with company match.
What you'll do
- Oversee daily accounts payable activities, including invoice batching, posting, documentation, and payment review.
- Support and manage AP staff, helping maintain accuracy and efficient workflow in a high-volume environment.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and project coordinators to ensure timely invoice approvals and proper job-cost processing.
- Maintain vendor records, manage vendor onboarding documentation, and resolve escalated vendor inquiries.
- Reconcile company credit card accounts and provide transaction reporting to leadership.
- Assist with annual budgeting, quarterly budget analysis, and budget entry into the accounting system.
- Prepare annual 1099 filings and support other AP reporting and compliance requirements.
- Help identify and resolve issues while maintaining strong relationships across the organization.
What we're looking for
- 3–5+ years of progressive Accounts Payable experience, ideally in construction or another project-based environment.
- Experience handling high invoice volumes and competing deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Confidence communicating with vendors, project managers, and field personnel, including the ability to address issues professionally and hold others accountable.
- Leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Experience with Trimble/Vista or other construction accounting systems is a plus.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
Ready for your next step?
- If you have a strong AP foundation and are interested in developing into a leadership role with a growing, employee-owned company, we'd like to hear from you.
