We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager Contractor to support an engagement in Davisburg, Michigan. This role is ideal for a hands-on accountant who can dive into the general ledger, assess the accuracy of financial data, and strengthen reporting practices through careful analysis. The selected candidate will review key account balances, resolve discrepancies, and help improve the processes and controls that support reliable financial reporting. This is a Contract position. This role requires onsite attendance in Davisburg, MI one day per week.
The day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Examine balance sheet and income statement activity to confirm accuracy and identify inconsistencies requiring follow-up.
- Work directly within QuickBooks Online to analyze general ledger transactions, trace account activity, and resolve problem areas.
- Perform detailed account reconciliations and prepare adjusting journal entries to correct accounting issues.
- Support month-end close activities by validating balances, reviewing financial results, and ensuring records are complete.
- Investigate the root causes of accounting errors and recommend practical steps to reduce future discrepancies.
- Evaluate existing accounting workflows and strengthen internal controls that improve the quality of financial reporting.
- Partner with stakeholders to explain findings, document corrections, and maintain clear accounting support schedules.
The ideal candidate will have the following skill set:
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including responsibility for complex financial reviews.
- Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures, general ledger analysis, and account reconciliation.
- Experience identifying accounting errors and preparing accurate correcting journal entries.
- Familiarity with financial statement review and supporting audit-ready documentation.
- Hands-on experience using QuickBooks Online or a similar accounting system.
- Ability to assess accounting processes and recommend effective internal control improvements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve issues independently.
