Robert Half Management Resources is looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support a Manufacturing client in Dayton, OH. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting specialist who can step in quickly, manage core close activities, and provide strong financial oversight in a hybrid work environment. The position supports the Controller directly and offers the opportunity to contribute immediately across critical accounting operations while the organization evaluates longer-term staffing needs. This role is expected to be an interim role through mid January, but there is potential for contract to hire if it's a good fit long term.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the monthly close cycle from start to finish, ensuring entries are recorded accurately and deadlines are met.
- Examine profit and loss statements and balance sheet activity to identify variances, resolve discrepancies, and support accurate reporting.
- Prepare and complete reconciliations for general ledger accounts, cash activity, and bank accounts on a timely basis.
- Maintain journal entries and supporting documentation to uphold the integrity of financial records.
- Oversee balance sheet account analysis and follow through on outstanding reconciling items.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of sales tax filings in compliance with reporting requirements.
- Partner directly with the Controller to support day-to-day accounting priorities and maintain continuity within the finance function.
- Contribute to a smooth transition of accounting responsibilities by stepping into key senior-level duties with minimal ramp-up.
- Work effectively in a hybrid schedule, collaborating onsite and remotely as business needs require.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including work at the senior accountant level.
- Proven ability to manage month-end close activities independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong background in general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation.
- Experience reviewing balance sheets, income statements, and related financial data for accuracy and completeness.
- Knowledge of bank and cash reconciliation processes as well as sales tax reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for analysis, reconciliation, and financial reporting support.
- Experience with Acumatica and/or Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP is preferred but not required.
- Ability to start quickly and operate effectively with limited supervision.
