A growing construction company is looking for a Construction Accountant to help manage project financials, monitor job costs, and keep accounting records aligned with active construction schedules. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working closely with project managers and operations teams rather than focusing exclusively on traditional general ledger duties. The right candidate will understand how labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and change orders affect project profitability. Experience in commercial construction, specialty contracting, or job-cost accounting is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain project-level financial records and job-cost schedules.
- Review subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and vendor bills for accurate project coding.
- Track committed costs, change orders, retainage, and project expenditures.
- Reconcile job-cost reports against the general ledger and investigate discrepancies.
- Assist with progress billing, customer invoicing, and accounts receivable follow-up.
- Monitor subcontractor documentation and coordinate invoice approvals with project managers.
- Prepare cost-to-budget reports and flag potential project overruns.
- Record journal entries, accruals, and month-end adjustments.
- Assist with monthly financial close and project profitability reporting.
- Maintain documentation for audits, project reviews, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate with operations and estimating teams to resolve cost allocation questions.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based accounting.
- Understanding of job costing, subcontractor payments, and construction billing.
- Familiarity with retainage, change orders, and work-in-progress reporting preferred.
- Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage 300 Construction, Viewpoint, or similar systems is a plus.
- Strong Excel skills and general ledger knowledge.
