We are looking for a Cloud Engineer to build and support secure, scalable cloud environments for a contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role. This role focuses on infrastructure automation, cloud security, and compliance-driven engineering across modern cloud platforms, with an emphasis on creating reliable deployment standards and well-governed environments. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with Terraform, strong knowledge of AWS services, and the ability to partner with technical and compliance teams to deliver resilient solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and administer cloud infrastructure that supports performance, scalability, and strong security controls across production and non-production environments.
- Create and refine Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, developing reusable modules and standardized patterns that improve consistency and speed of delivery.
- Embed compliance and security requirements into cloud architectures by applying controls for access management, encryption, logging, and governance.
- Work with security and audit stakeholders to prepare compliance evidence, address findings, and support remediation activities tied to regulatory frameworks.
- Configure and maintain monitoring, alerting, and threat-detection capabilities using services such as CloudWatch, GuardDuty, and Security Hub.
- Evaluate cloud environments for efficiency, reliability, and cost effectiveness, then recommend and implement improvements where needed.
- Partner with DevOps, application, and security teams to strengthen CI/CD processes and incorporate secure engineering practices into deployment workflows.
- Produce clear technical documentation covering architecture decisions, Terraform assets, operational procedures, and compliance-related processes.
- Provide guidance to internal teams on cloud best practices, infrastructure automation, and secure configuration standards across AWS and related platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 3 years of experience working with cloud infrastructure in enterprise environments.
- Proven hands-on expertise with Terraform for provisioning, configuration, and infrastructure standardization.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles and compliance frameworks such as CMMC, NIST 800-171, or ISO 27001.
- Experience working with core AWS services, including compute, storage, networking, serverless, and infrastructure management tools.
- Familiarity with cloud monitoring and security tooling, including CloudWatch, GuardDuty, and Security Hub.
- Scripting experience with tools such as Python or Bash to support automation and operational tasks.
- AWS certifications or comparable cloud credentials are preferred.
