We are looking for an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to support a high-volume accounting team in Birmingham, Alabama. This is a Contract position expected to last at least 8 weeks, with the possibility of extension based on business needs. The person in this role will help maintain timely invoice processing and payment operations in a fast-paced environment while working closely with the Controller and accounting staff.
Responsibilities:
- Review, code, and enter a large volume of vendor invoices accurately and efficiently each day.
- Process accounts payable transactions from receipt through payment while maintaining proper documentation and approval flow.
- Support check runs and ACH payment activities to ensure vendors are paid on schedule.
- Verify invoice details, account coding, and supporting records to reduce discrepancies and processing delays.
- Work within accounting platforms such as JD Edwards, Perceptive, or similar systems to manage invoice activity and records.
- Communicate with internal team members to resolve invoice issues, missing information, and payment-related questions.
- Assist the accounting department during peak seasonal workload and provide dependable support as volume increases.
- Follow established procedures and adapt quickly to training, team expectations, and daily processing priorities.
- Previous hands-on experience in accounts payable within a high-volume processing environment.
- Strong ability to code invoices accurately and apply appropriate general ledger accounts.
- Experience handling ACH payments, check runs, and standard invoice processing tasks.
- Proficiency with accounting or ERP systems; exposure to JD Edwards, Perceptive, or Integra is beneficial.
- Detail-oriented approach with the ability to manage deadlines and maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with accounting staff and vendors.
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work onsite during standard weekday business hours.
