We are looking for an experienced Sr. Paralegal to support complex appellate matters with a law firm based in the Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia area. This role partners closely with attorneys on federal appeals by coordinating case materials, producing high-quality legal documents, and helping keep filings accurate and on schedule. The ideal candidate brings strong research and writing skills, sound knowledge of federal appellate procedure, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with precision.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and oversee appellate matter files so records, filings, and supporting materials remain complete, current, and easy to retrieve.
  • Draft, revise, and proofread briefs, motions, pleadings, and related submissions for federal appellate courts with careful attention to format and citation accuracy.
  • Support attorneys in shaping appellate strategy by gathering authorities, analyzing legal issues, and summarizing relevant findings.
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of court filings, including matters before federal appellate courts and the United States Supreme Court, while monitoring critical deadlines.
  • Track court-specific procedural rules, electronic filing requirements, and scheduling updates to help ensure full compliance on every matter.
  • Maintain case information within electronic docketing and document management systems to promote efficient workflow and reliable reporting.
  • Perform detailed legal research across case law, statutes, regulations, and other authorities to support briefs, memoranda, and attorney analysis.
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel regarding case logistics, status updates, and procedural questions.
  • Assist with preparation for oral arguments and court appearances by compiling materials, organizing exhibits, and helping attorneys and clients prepare effectively.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to entry-level paralegals and contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on high-quality legal support.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of paralegal experience with substantial exposure to appellate matters and federal court litigation.
  • Demonstrated experience using federal electronic filing platforms, including filing processes related to the United States Supreme Court.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal court rules, appellate procedures, and filing deadlines.
  • Advanced legal research and legal writing abilities, including preparation of memoranda and support for appellate briefs.
  • Proficiency with legal research platforms, case management tools, and citation practices such as Bluebook formatting.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple assignments independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with a detail-focused approach to working with attorneys, clients, and court personnel.
