Reconciliations & Reporting Specialist
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Schedule: Hybrid
Compensation: $52k to $57k annually
Bonus: Eligible for a bonus opportunity after conversion
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a detail oriented Staff Accountant to join a collaborative accounting team supporting more than 50 entities across multiple locations. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys accounting but also likes the investigative side of the work, researching discrepancies, identifying patterns, and partnering with different areas of the business to resolve issues.
The accounting environment is highly automated, with the majority of transaction matching handled through the automated system. Rather than spending most of the day manually processing transactions, this role focuses on reviewing exceptions, researching discrepancies, completing reconciliations, and ensuring financial activity is accurate.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Perform general ledger and account reconciliations, including bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, prepaids, and accruals
- Prepare and post journal entries and assist with month end close activities
- Complete intercompany balancing and research discrepancies between entities
- Support multiple assigned locations while partnering with accounting, operations, plant teams, and other departments
- Review daily banking activity to ensure deposits are properly received and recorded
- Reconcile cash, credit, and debit card activity from retail locations against POS and banking information
- Research deposits and transactions that do not automatically match and determine the cause of discrepancies
- Monitor deposit activity for unusual patterns, larger variances, and missing funds requiring additional research
- Investigate pricing, quantity, and transaction discrepancies and work with internal teams to obtain supporting information
- Assist with month end prepaid and accrual activity, including recurring expenses such as utilities
- Review automated reconciliation data for accuracy and investigate exceptions or inconsistencies
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred; candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and sufficient accounting coursework will also be considered
- General ledger accounting and account reconciliation experience
- Experience reconciling bank statements and balance sheet accounts
- Understanding of prepaids, accruals, journal entries, and month end close
- Experience with intercompany accounting and balancing transactions between entities
- Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to research discrepancies through resolution
- Comfortable supporting multiple locations and communicating with several departments and contacts
- Ability to change pace, adapt to shifting priorities, and switch gears throughout the day
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize patterns or transactions that require further review
- Must be comfortable learning new technology and working within an automated accounting environment.
Why You’ll Love the Team
You’ll be joining a diverse, close knit accounting team with a collaborative and approachable culture. The office has an open environment where team members communicate regularly, help one another, and work together to get through busy periods and month end close.
The team also makes a point to have fun. From office games and friendly competitions to catered lunches, gift card prizes, and celebrations after period close, they have created an environment that balances getting the work done with genuinely enjoying the people you work with.
