This role combines employee relations, coaching, training, recruiting support, and payroll oversight in a fast-paced environment with a largely hourly workforce. The ideal candidate brings practical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance day-to-day HR support with compliance and payroll continuity responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary HR contact for property teams, guiding managers through performance matters, workplace concerns, policy issues, and other sensitive employee situations.
- Conduct thorough workplace investigations, document findings, recommend next steps, and ensure matters are resolved in a timely and effective manner.
- Provide coaching to regional and on-site leaders on employee management, corrective action, staffing decisions, compensation discussions, and organizational changes.
- Build strong relationships across the portfolio through regular interaction with field teams and by identifying recurring people-related challenges that affect operations.
- Create and deliver training programs focused on leadership fundamentals, interviewing, conflict management, workplace conduct, and effective performance management.
- Strengthen employee engagement and retention by using feedback tools such as surveys, stay conversations, exit feedback, and turnover trends to shape action plans.
- Support hiring efforts for key property-level positions by participating in interviews, advising on candidate selection, and partnering on strategies to improve hiring results.
- Oversee each semi-monthly payroll cycle by reviewing payroll details, resolving discrepancies, approving submissions, and stepping in to process multi-state payroll independently when needed.
- Maintain payroll readiness by processing payroll periodically, supporting documentation and control procedures, and addressing wage-and-hour concerns identified through payroll reviews.
- Partner on policy administration, compliance matters, leave and accommodation issues, workers’ compensation coordination, and updates that impact property operations.
- Experience in HR generalist work with strong exposure to employee relations, manager support, and policy administration.
- Ability to review and process multi-state payroll accurately, including exceptions, final pay, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Knowledge of employment practices affecting hourly workforces, including wage-and-hour compliance and workplace investigations.
- Background supporting distributed or field-based teams, ideally within multifamily, property management, or a similar operational setting.
- Strong facilitation and coaching skills with the ability to train leaders and employees on practical HR topics.
- Familiarity with HRIS platforms and payroll systems; experience with Rippling Payroll and Time & Attendance is preferred.
- Comfortable handling sensitive information with discretion while building credibility with employees, managers, and senior leadership.
