We are looking for a Dispatcher to coordinate daily delivery activity and keep transportation operations running smoothly in Mount Vernon, New York. This Long-term Contract position is best suited for someone who is organized, service-minded, and comfortable managing route activity from a fast-paced desk-based environment. The person in this role will work closely with drivers, monitor delivery progress, resolve issues throughout the day, and help maintain efficient loadout and post-route operations.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily dispatch activity for a large group of drivers, helping keep routes on schedule and addressing operational needs as they arise.
- Use routing and tracking systems to build, review, and monitor delivery schedules throughout the shift.
- Support inbound trucks before departures by coordinating receiving activities, organizing route staging, and preparing the site for loadout.
- Assist drivers during loadout by handling check-in and check-out, answering delivery-related questions, and providing guidance on service expectations and compliance standards.
- Track driver progress during active routes, identify delivery exceptions, and escalate concerns related to service, compliance, or payment matters when needed.
- Review proof-of-delivery records and photos to confirm accuracy, then flag missing or incorrect documentation for follow-up.
- Reconcile undelivered or failed packages after routes are completed and help reset the floor for the next operational cycle.
- Maintain continuous coverage at dispatch workstations and contribute to smooth communication across the site during high-volume periods.
- Provide limited hands-on support with package sorting during peak demand when operational priorities require additional assistance.
- Previous experience in dispatching, logistics coordination, or transportation support within a fast-paced operation.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with drivers and internal teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities at once while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Comfortable using dispatch, routing, and shipment-tracking tools to support daily operations.
- Capable of monitoring delivery activity, resolving issues quickly, and making sound decisions under time-sensitive conditions.
- Willingness to work in a desk-based role that may occasionally include light operational support in the facility.
- Dependable organizational skills and the ability to keep workstations and processes running efficiently throughout the shift.
