We are looking for a detail-oriented Business Analyst to support digital document accessibility initiatives in Ventura, California. This Long-term Contract position focuses on improving the usability and compliance of Word and PDF materials by ensuring they meet recognized accessibility standards. The ideal candidate will combine strong document remediation expertise with the ability to guide stakeholders, build practical standards, and help expand accessible content practices across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Produce and update Microsoft Word and PDF documents so they align with established accessibility requirements and organizational standards.
- Build interactive, accessible fillable forms with properly defined fields, meaningful labels, logical tab sequencing, and keyboard-friendly navigation.
- Organize document elements using clear structural components such as headings, lists, tables, links, alternative text, and accurate reading order.
- Evaluate files through automated accessibility checks and hands-on review, then correct issues that affect compliance and usability.
- Confirm that documents function effectively with screen readers and other assistive technologies used by diverse audiences.
- Improve legacy files and create reusable templates, formatting guidance, and document standards that support consistent accessible output.
- Work closely with content owners and cross-functional stakeholders to strengthen accessibility practices across multiple departments.
- Provide training and knowledge sharing to staff so teams can produce accessible documents more efficiently and meet delivery timelines.
- Manage technical document components such as tagging, metadata, and related structural elements needed for compliant digital files.
- 2+ years of experience in document accessibility, business analysis, or a related role supporting structured digital content.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, with the ability to create and remediate accessible documents.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro, including experience preparing accessible and fillable PDF forms.
- Practical knowledge of WCAG 2.1 Level AA, Section 508, PDF/UA principles, and broader digital accessibility expectations.
- Experience working with tagging, reading order, form field settings, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader compatibility.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage priorities independently in a deadline-driven environment.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to support, train, and collaborate with content creators and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with document structure, metadata concepts, and accessibility best practices across digital file formats.
