This role will combine hands-on accounting support with a detailed review of current financial and operational workflows, helping the organization understand where manual effort, spreadsheet tracking, and system limitations affect efficiency. The position will contribute to year-end accounting activities while also documenting existing processes and identifying practical opportunities for automation, reporting improvements, and stronger system utilization.
Responsibilities:
- Review and document current accounting and operational procedures across core business cycles, including revenue collection, purchasing activities, and financial reporting workflows.
- Examine how teams rely on manual steps and spreadsheet-based tracking outside the existing system, and summarize the impact on accuracy, efficiency, and visibility.
- Map the movement of information between departments to highlight process gaps, delays, and areas where controls or coordination can be strengthened.
- Support year-end accounting tasks by preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling general ledger activity, and assisting with close-related analysis.
- Assess accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial processes to identify bottlenecks and recommend practical workflow improvements.
- Evaluate current reporting and data gathering practices to determine where automation or more effective system use could improve decision-making.
- Develop clear process documentation and current-state assessments that can guide future planning around accounting operations and system enhancement efforts.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to provide actionable recommendations related to process efficiency, financial controls, and ongoing accounting support needs.
- Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role with responsibility for general ledger activity and month-end or year-end support.
- Working knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return processes.
- Ability to prepare, review, and post journal entries with strong attention to accuracy and supporting documentation.
- Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and broader financial operations in an enterprise business environment.
- Demonstrated skill in analyzing existing processes, identifying inefficiencies, and documenting workflows in a clear and organized manner.
- Strong Excel and financial data analysis capabilities, especially in environments where manual tracking and reconciliations are common.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work across departments and translate findings into practical recommendations.
