job summary:
We are seeking a senior-level Cost Allocation Data Engineer to design and implement the analytical models powering our enterprise cloud financial management platform. In this role, you will bridge the gap between technical data architecture and financial business logic, creating systems that distribute, attribute, and amortize cloud infrastructure spend across multiple business dimensions to enable transparent chargeback and showback capabilities.

responsibilities:
- Architect and implement data models that allocate, attribute, and distribute cloud infrastructure costs across business units.
- Design and deploy an allocation rule engine handling tag-based, account-based, and custom mapping scenarios.
- Build mathematical amortization models for upfront capital outlays, including 1-year and 3-year commitment plans.
- Develop shared-cost distribution logic based on proportional, even split, and fixed coefficient formulas.
- Construct heuristic attribution logic to categorize and allocate untagged cloud expenses using account ownership data.
- Engineer analytical models comparing budgeted spend versus actual consumption and variance trends.
- Formulate forecasting input datasets from historical spending trajectories.
- Ensure all dimensional schemas strictly comply with standard accounting periods and expense-matching rules.
qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
5-7 years of enterprise data engineering and dimensional data modeling experience.
Expert-level SQL skills with a proven track record of authoring complex analytical logic.
Demonstrated hands-on experience designing and operating cost allocation, chargeback, or showback architectures.
In-depth understanding of FinOps frameworks and core financial accounting concepts (amortization schedules, accruals, matching principles).
Direct experience utilizing data modeling and transformation frameworks such as dbt, LookML, or similar tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience supporting Communications, Media & Technology (CM&T) or enterprise-scale technology services initiatives.
Hands-on familiarity with native cloud billing exports (e.g., AWS CUR, Azure Cost Management, GCP Billing export).
Strong track record partnering directly with finance and FinOps practitioners to translate accounting policies into programmatic data pipelines.
