- 8-10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a strong specialization in Oracle database development in enterprise SaaS environments.
- Deep Oracle SQL and PL/SQL expertise - stored procedures, packages, functions, triggers, views, and complex multi-join queries against large datasets; this is the primary skill requirement for this role.
- Demonstrated experience diagnosing and optimizing poorly performing SQL and PL/SQL - reading execution plans, applying indexing strategies, using hints and optimizer statistics, and rebuilding queries at production scale.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle 19c and Oracle-specific performance features - execution plan analysis, index types, partitioning, materialized views, bulk processing, and analytic functions.

Job Description
Insight Global is looking for a Principal Database Engineer to support our clients enterprise SaaS platform on their Financial management system. This is a purely Oracle role: the large majority of your time will be spent writing, optimizing, and maintaining PL/SQL, stored procedures, packages, and queries. This is a 100% individual contributor role with no direct reports. You will be assigned performance and feature work - diagnosing long-running queries and stored procedures, tuning them for production scale, and assisting engineering teams in developing new features by authoring and reviewing the database-tier code behind them - understanding requirements, authoring an Engineering Design Doc (EDD) where appropriate, coordinating across the team on any expected impacts, and delivering - then taking on the next piece and doing it again. This is not a Database Administrator position: deep application-development experience in PL/SQL is required.
- Lead Oracle query tuning and optimization - execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, hints, optimizer statistics, partitioning, materialized views, and read-optimization patterns - within the constraints of the existing schema.
