Controller – Construction Industry
Location: Scotch Plains, NJ (Onsite)
A growing construction-related organization in the Scotch Plains, NJ area is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader with strong construction industry experience who enjoys partnering with operations while driving financial performance and process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, job costing, inventory, and fixed assets
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and management reporting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal controls
- Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, inventory valuation, and margin analysis
- Coordinate external audits and maintain relationships with CPA firms
- Lead and mentor the accounting team while improving processes and workflows
- Partner with project management and executive leadership to provide financial insights and operational support
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA or CPA-eligible preferred
- 5+ years of accounting experience within the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of job costing and WIP reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Index/Match, and financial modeling
- ERP experience required; Vista Viewpoint is highly preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across accounting and project operations in a fast-paced environment
