We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations for a Contract position based in Madison, Wisconsin. This opportunity is ideal for someone who can manage core accounting activities with accuracy while helping maintain strong financial records and reporting practices. The role will contribute to routine close activities, account analysis, and tax-related work in a dynamic engineering environment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and post journal entries to maintain accurate financial records and support monthly accounting activities.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure balances are complete and correct.
- Assist with day-to-day accounting operations, including transaction review, documentation, and account support.
- Support corporate tax processes by organizing data and contributing to tax return preparation activities.
- Handle sales tax tasks, including reviewing taxable transactions and helping maintain timely and accurate filings.
- Maintain general ledger integrity by reviewing account activity and resolving variances as they arise.
- Provide accounting support related to organizational system implementation efforts as needed during ongoing operations.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to gather financial information and improve the accuracy of routine reporting.
- Experience in staff accounting or a similar accounting role supporting day-to-day financial operations.
- Working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Familiarity with corporate tax responsibilities, including support for corporate tax return preparation.
- Understanding of sales tax processes and related accounting requirements.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for financial analysis and reporting.
