We are looking for a Risk & Fraud Analyst to support a growing risk function in California. This Long-term Contract opportunity is well suited for an early-career candidate who brings strong analytical thinking, careful judgment, and a genuine interest in fraud prevention, credit risk, and finance operations. In this role, you will evaluate potentially suspicious activity, help protect the business from avoidable losses, and work closely with cross-functional teams while gaining valuable exposure to enterprise-level risk processes. You will also have the chance to learn from experienced leaders and build a strong foundation for continued growth in risk, finance, or operations.
Responsibilities:
- Examine transactions and account activity that trigger risk indicators, determining whether further review or action is needed.
- Verify customer, account, and order information by comparing records, documents, and supporting details for accuracy and legitimacy.
- Apply established risk standards to decide when to approve activity, stop transactions, or elevate cases for deeper investigation.
- Maintain thorough case documentation that clearly captures research performed, conclusions reached, and any follow-up steps taken.
- Monitor fraud alerts and exception reporting tools to identify unusual patterns, emerging threats, and operational vulnerabilities.
- Investigate irregular order behavior, purchasing anomalies, and other exceptions that may signal fraud or financial risk.
- Perform inventory checks and targeted audit reviews to confirm accuracy and uncover discrepancies that require attention.
- Partner with internal teams to strengthen risk controls, support investigations, and improve overall fraud mitigation efforts.
- Escalate complex or high-impact issues appropriately while contributing practical recommendations for process enhancements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated analytical ability with the capacity to assess information carefully and draw sound conclusions.
- Strong attention to detail with a consistent focus on accuracy in high-volume review environments.
- Good independent judgment and the ability to make informed decisions within defined risk guidelines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and collaborating across teams.
- Ability to manage repetitive transactional work efficiently without sacrificing quality.
- Prior exposure to fraud review, payment operations, chargebacks, compliance, audit, credit analysis, or risk-related functions is advantageous.
