We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a construction company in Tigard, OR on a Contract basis. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who can assess current financial operations, identify breakdowns in core processes, and restore structure across the accounting function. The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, practical QuickBooks experience, and the ability to partner closely with staff to rebuild a reliable month-end close and year-end readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate existing accounting workflows to uncover process gaps and recommend practical improvements across daily and monthly operations.
- Lead the restoration of accurate month-end close activities and reestablish a dependable cadence for timely financial reporting.
- Investigate issues affecting accounts payable and accounts receivable and implement corrective actions to improve accuracy and control.
- Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring records are complete, organized, and aligned with accounting standards.
- Work directly with the accounting team to clarify responsibilities, strengthen execution, and create a more efficient operating rhythm.
- Provide hands-on support within QuickBooks and help stabilize accounting processes following prior system implementation challenges.
- Review supporting documentation and financial records to improve consistency, traceability, and internal accountability.
- Help position the organization for a successful year-end close by bringing structure, insight, and operational discipline to the finance function.
- Proven experience serving as a Controller or Account Manager with ownership of the full accounting cycle.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks, including experience using QuickBooks Enterprise in a business environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage month-end close and produce accurate financial statements.
- Solid background in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger oversight.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Ability to assess existing accounting processes, identify root causes of issues, and implement effective solutions.
- Construction industry experience is highly preferred.
