Experience with or exposure to:
-Cloud infrastructure and resource provisioning requirements -Application modernization -Availability and resiliency -Observability and monitoring -Cloud clusters/environments -Cloud performance -Cloud cost management and optimization -QA and production environments -Ability to understand how multiple cloud components and technical domains interact. -Ability to take application requirements and determine what infrastructure must be in place before development or deployment can proceed. -Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across siloed development and infrastructure teams. -Proactive mindset with the ability to identify dependencies and follow up across multiple teams rather than waiting for issues to arise.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
-Experience with Apptio or similar cloud financial management/cost optimization tooling. -Experience supporting Azure application modernization initiatives. -Exposure to cloud architecture and infrastructure design. -Experience evaluating cloud consumption, run rates, and optimization opportunities. -Previous experience working in an environment where application engineering and infrastructure teams operate as separate functions.
Job Description
We are seeking a Cloud Engineer with a strong development background and hands-on Microsoft Azure experience to support application modernization and an expanding cloud environment. This role will be approximately 60-70% cloud development and engineering and 30-40% focused on understanding and coordinating with the Azure infrastructure environment, including availability, observability, monitoring, resource requirements, and cloud cost optimization. This is not a traditional infrastructure engineer position. The ideal candidate is primarily a developer/engineer who understands what needs to exist on the infrastructure side for an application to successfully operate in Azure.
Key Responsibilities:
-Develop, modernize, and support applications running within Microsoft Azure. -Partner with the infrastructure team to identify and communicate the Azure resources and infrastructure requirements needed to support application development. -Understand the dependencies between application development and cloud infrastructure, ensuring the appropriate resources are established before development and deployment activities begin. -Support applications across QA, production, and ongoing maintenance environments. -Work across multiple areas of the Azure ecosystem, understanding how different cloud services and dependencies fit together and the correct sequence for implementation. -Monitor and understand application availability, observability, cloud clusters, performance, and infrastructure dependencies. -Support ongoing cloud optimization and cost-management efforts, including evaluating Azure run rates and identifying potential areas for optimization. -Work with Apptio and related cloud cost-management/optimization capabilities. -Coordinate proactively with infrastructure teams and other technical stakeholders to follow requirements through from initial setup to application readiness. -Contribute to broader application modernization efforts as additional cloud workloads move into Azure. -Translate application requirements into clear infrastructure needs and communicate those requirements effectively to specialized infrastructure teams. -Develop with an understanding of the entire cloud environment rather than operating solely within the application layer.
