Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer for a client developing advanced high-power energy infrastructure. This role will be responsible for the design, simulation, prototyping, validation, and commercial release of high-power, grid-connected converters for applications including utility-scale energy storage, data centers, and industrial electrification. The position requires technical breadth across semiconductor switching physics, circuit-level dynamics, high-voltage magnetics, converter controls, and multi-megawatt system architectures. This engineer will work cross-functionally with firmware/software, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, compliance, certification, reliability, and NPI teams to transition complex power electronics designs into robust, production-ready hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement advanced bidirectional, isolated, and non-isolated converter topologies, including DAB, resonant, multilevel, MMC, and multi-stage SST architectures.
- Partner with mechanical and manufacturing engineering to integrate high-power converter modules and stacks with thermal management, racking, structural support, and system-level enclosures.
- Develop layouts that minimize circuit parasitics, including loop inductance and gate-loop parasitics, while managing voltage overshoot, ringing, and electromagnetic interference.
- Design custom high-frequency magnetic components, balancing core losses, skin/proximity copper losses, and thermal dissipation.
- Partner with embedded controls and firmware engineers on digital control implementation.
- Lead hands-on hardware bring-up, testing, debugging, and iterative design revisions, validating electrical and thermal performance against theoretical models.
- Apply DFM, DFA, DFT, and Design for Cost principles throughout the hardware development lifecycle to support scalable manufacturing.
- Collaborate with NPI and manufacturing engineering to establish production assembly flows, end-of-line functional testing, and second-source strategies for critical components.
