We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join a Contract assignment supporting the finance team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role will focus on core accounting operations, month-end activities, project-related financial review, and account cleanup efforts while helping maintain accurate reporting. The ideal candidate brings a hands-on approach, strong problem-solving ability, and the flexibility to learn quickly and support a smooth transition within the team.
Responsibilities:
- Manage month-end close activities, including preparing journal entries, reviewing balances, and supporting timely financial reporting.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts by comparing source documentation to recorded activity and resolving discrepancies efficiently.
- Oversee prepaid expenses, accrual entries, and other routine senior-level accounting tasks to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Review project financial activity by analyzing labor hours, invoice details, and expense postings to confirm revenue and costs are recorded correctly.
- Support revenue recognition processes and help finalize project accounting so work is properly closed out in the system.
- Gather payroll-related data and record appropriate entries in the general ledger with a high level of accuracy.
- Assist with cleanup efforts across accounts payable, project accounting records, and other legacy financial items requiring correction or clarification.
- Cross-train with team members and document knowledge to promote continuity and enable a seamless handoff at the end of the assignment.
- Proven experience in a Senior Accountant or similar accounting role.
- Strong background in month-end close, general ledger accounting, and journal entry preparation.
- Demonstrated skill in account reconciliations, including researching support and resolving variances.
- Experience with bank reconciliations, accruals, prepaid accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Ability to work independently, learn new processes quickly, and contribute practical solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling project accounting and financial data.
- Proficiency collaborating with internal teams and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in commercial aviation or a related industry is preferred.
