Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of Protection & Control Engineering experience.
- Experience with utility, substation, transmission, or distribution projects.
- Hands-on experience with protective relays (SEL, SIPROTEC, GE Multilin, ABB Relion).
- Ability to develop and review AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic diagrams.
- Experience with IEC 61850, DNP3, and/or Modbus communications.
- FAT, SAT, commissioning, or startup experience.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, Engineering Base, EPLAN, or similar tools.
- Ability to read one-line and three-line diagrams.
- Knowledge of ANSI/IEEE protection standards.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Utility substation design experience.
- Transmission/distribution protection schemes (feeder, transformer, bus, line differential, distance protection).
- Experience with Siemens SIPROTEC or SEL relay programming.
- UL 508A, IEC, or NERC compliance knowledge.
- SCADA and substation automation experience.
- Leadership or mentoring experience.

Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Senior Protection & Control Engineer on behalf of a leading power distribution and grid automation organization. This individual will support the design, engineering, testing, and commissioning of protection and control systems for utility, industrial, and power infrastructure projects.
This is a highly technical role focused on relay protection, substation automation, control panel design, and power system engineering. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with protection schemes, relay settings, utility communication protocols, and customer-facing engineering support.
Responsibilities:
- Design protection, control, and automation systems for utility and industrial power applications.
- Develop AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and protection philosophies.
- Configure and apply protective relays including SEL, Siemens SIPROTEC, GE Multilin, ABB Relion, or similar platforms.
- Create and review engineering packages, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, panel layouts, and testing procedures.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Troubleshoot protection and control systems during commissioning and startup activities.
- Interface directly with customers, project teams, and field personnel throughout project execution.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers. Assist with scope development, engineering estimates, and technical proposal support as needed.
