Required Skills & Experience
- Early-Stage Prototype Collaboration & Assembly: Partner closely with Engineering during early proof of concept builds. Ensuring initial engineering designs translate into repeatable, scalable assembly steps, as well as providing hands on build & FA support
- Process Flow & WI Translation: Convert preliminary prototype build steps, engineering notes, and trial feedback into structured Process Flows and step-by-step Work Instructions
- Tooling, Jigs & Fixture Engineering: Design, procure, and validate custom assembly fixtures, alignment jigs, and specialized production tooling. Perform CAD design and rapid prototyping for fixtures to ensure tight tolerances, repeatable yields, and ergonomic operator safety.
- DFM/DFA & Risk Mitigation: Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Assembly (DFA) reviews with R&D. Utilize PFMEA to proactively identify, quantify, and mitigate technical assembly risks before high-volume manufacturing.
- Process Development & Validation: Define, optimize, and qualify technical manufacturing processes (e.g., dispensing, thermal bonding, torque sequencing). Ensure processes consistently meet target yields, cycle times, and throughput requirements.
- NPI Transition & CM Onboarding: Lead the "technical hand-off" to high-volume production. Drive line bring-up, troubleshoot pilot/ramp builds, resolve yield drop issues, and onboard Tier-1 Contract Manufacturers (CMs).
- Technical Approvals & ECO Management: Serve as a primary technical reviewer in the PLM/Change Management workflow; evaluate and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Manufacturing Change Orders (MCOs) for production readiness.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Technical Design: Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks or Nx) for fixture design and assembly review.
- Analytical Rigor: Command of SPC, DOE, and Root Cause Analysis (8D or 5-Whys).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: 2+ years in process development/NPI within high-volume or complex hardware environments.
Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer serves as the critical bridge between product design and mass production. You are responsible for the technical development, validation, and launch of robust manufacturing processes for new hardware products. Your mission is to ensure that "what is designed" can be "built at scale" by defining the equipment, tooling, and process parameters required to meet rigorous quality, cost, and throughput targets. You will champion DFx (Design for Excellence) during early-stage development and lead technical root-cause analysis for any assembly-line roadblocks.
