Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of low-voltage, fiber-optic, structured cabling, telecommunications, or data center network infrastructure experience, ideally supporting large-scale construction or mission-critical environments.
- Strong hands-on understanding of fiber-optic installation, termination, connector inspection, cleaning, testing, troubleshooting, and acceptance standards.
- Experience performing QA/QC inspections and identifying installation deficiencies related to fiber routing, bend radius, labeling, termination, workmanship, cleanliness, and test results.
- Demonstrated experience with root cause analysis and troubleshooting, with the ability to identify why fiber/network connectivity issues occurred and drive corrective actions with installation teams.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, network/fiber documentation, installation specifications, test reports, and commissioning/turnover documentation while effectively coordinating with contractors and project stakeholders.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of ISO 5 / ISO 8 cleanliness standards, contamination-control requirements, or experience working in controlled/clean environments.
- Previous experience supporting hyperscale or mission-critical data center construction, commissioning, or operational turnover.
- Experience using or reviewing results from OTDR, optical loss/power meter, fiber inspection microscope, or equivalent fiber testing and inspection equipment.
- Familiarity with industry fiber and structured-cabling standards such as TIA-568, TIA-942, BICSI practices, or applicable manufacturer installation/acceptance standards.
Job Description
The Low Voltage QA Engineer will serve as a fiber quality lead within a mission-critical data center environment, overseeing the quality, cleanliness, installation, testing, and turnover of fiber-optic infrastructure. This individual will work closely with low-voltage contractors, commissioning teams, construction personnel, and operations to ensure fiber installations meet project specifications and quality standards. The ideal candidate has a strong fiber networking background, understands proper fiber handling and cleanliness practices, and can perform root cause analysis (RCA) when quality or connectivity issues arise.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Provide QA oversight for low-voltage fiber installation and commissioning, verifying fiber routing, termination, labeling, connection, testing, and overall workmanship meet project and manufacturer requirements.
- Own fiber cleanliness and contamination control, inspecting fiber connectors and installation environments, identifying contamination risks, and ensuring proper cleaning and handling procedures are followed before connections are completed.
- Monitor low-voltage contractors (LVCs) in the field, performing installation inspections, documenting deficiencies, tracking punch-list items, and working directly with contractors to drive issues through resolution.
- Support testing, commissioning, final energization, and handover activities, reviewing fiber test results and quality documentation to ensure systems are complete and ready for turnover to data center operations.
- Lead root cause analysis for fiber quality and connectivity issues, investigating failures, contamination, installation defects, damaged components, or recurring quality problems and coordinating corrective and preventative actions.
