The Corporate Communications Internship is designed for highly motivated college students who have completed their sophomore year and are pursuing a degree in corporate communications, public relations, organizational communication, journalism, marketing communications, or related fields.
The Corporate Communications Intern will support initiatives that help inform, engage, and connect employees, leaders, and other key stakeholders. This internship provides an opportunity to gain real-world communications experience while learning and shaping how information flows within a complex global business.
Virtuoso’s belief in the power of in-person human connection means interns will be expected to work in the company’s downtown Fort Worth office every Tuesday and Wednesday, with the rest of the workweek designated as work-from-home days.
What You’ll Do. Responsibilities may include:
- Supporting multi-channel organizational communication campaigns and internal engagement programs
- Drafting articles, announcements, newsletters, presentations, and other communication materials
- Researching best practices, industry trends, and audience insights
- Gathering and organizing information from multiple stakeholders
- Supporting company events, meetings, and engagement activities
- Collaborating with leaders and employees across multiple departments
What We’re Looking For. The students who thrive in this role are naturally curious about people and organizations, including how communication influences culture and business performance. We are looking for someone who:
- Enjoys building relationships with people across multiple areas of the company
- Is proactive about reaching out with questions, ideas, and status updates
- Welcomes candid and direct feedback, viewing it as an opportunity to develop their skills, ultimately improving the quality of future work
- Communicates clearly and professionally in their work and with coworkers
- Takes ownership of assignments and follows through on commitments
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and produces high-quality work
- Is comfortable balancing multiple projects and competing priorities, and is able to foresee where conflicts may arise in order to address them early
- Is willing to contribute wherever needed to help the team succeed
Successful interns recognize that great communication starts with understanding people. They actively seek perspectives from others, ask thoughtful questions, and continuously refine their work based on feedback and collaboration.
This May Not Be the Right Fit If... If you are interested in becoming an influencer, this is not the internship for you. The corporate communications function serves the company, not an individual. Virtuoso prioritizes enterprise-level business results that rely on myriad contributions from across the organization. That degree of regular collaboration can be a culture shock to students accustomed to an academic setting that is focused on individual student performance.
Interns are not graded on turning in a series of finished solo assignments; instead, interns are assessed on their ability to receive feedback from stakeholders and iteratively improve their work with an eye toward achieving a shared business goal.
Individuals who prefer to work independently for extended periods, avoid reaching out to others for support or information, or are most comfortable staying within familiar routines may find this role challenging. Likewise, those who wait for others to resolve ambiguity before taking action, prefer rote predictability and repetition, or are reluctant to seek feedback may struggle in an environment that values initiative, adaptability, and learning by doing, even when may be uncomfortable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business, English, Strategic Communication, or a related field
- Completion of sophomore year prior to the internship start date
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience writing or creating content for school publications, student organizations, clubs, volunteer groups, or past jobs is a plus; examples of proficiency will be useful in assessing fit
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications as well as video editing is helpful but not required
- Content samples or portfolio of work demonstrating quality written and/or video projects
What You’ll Gain:
- Hands-on experience in corporate communications within a global organization
- Exposure to employee communications, organizational culture, and stakeholder engagement strategies
- Opportunities to collaborate with leaders and teams across the business
- Professional mentorship and feedback
- Experience developing communication content for real business audiences
- A greater understanding of how communication supports business strategy, culture, and employee engagement
- An introduction to one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing industries
