The Development Manager directly manages highly motivated Software Engineers in the software development process. They are effective leaders that mentor and motivate. They work to deliver compelling functionality quickly with a focus on user experience, security, quality, and performance. With this opportunity, you will use your computer science background and engineering expertise to shape Rave’s platform-wide approach for managing, analyzing, and implementing highly reliable mission critical software.
What you will do:
- Manages the work of engineers to ensure best practices around software development.
- Manages and oversees the design and development of critical high volume software systems.
- Ensures project and department goals are met while adhering to a budget.
- Prepares Technical Proposals pertinent to software engineering.
- Supervises training and development of software engineering staff.
- Assigns work to software engineering personnel and evaluates and manages their performance.
- Help recruit engineering personnel, technical staffing, and project teams.
- Supervises engineering deliverables.
- Supports preparation of Technology Roadmap.
- Supervise reporting responsibility for independent software contractors, software engineers and outsourcing partners.
- Partner in design and iterative development to enhance and support an effective, reliable, and secure Alerting solution that scales to address Rave’s future vision.
- Interact cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Product, and QA teams.
- Work closely with Architecture to ensure development practices align with architectural standards and goals.
- Shares industry and product technical expertise.
Who you are:
- BS degree in Computer Science or other relevant experience
- 2+ years direct management experience in software development
- Real-world experience building large scale Java/JEE SaaS Enterprise applications
- Must be able to provide cross-functional leadership support for other teams (Product Management, Quality Assurance, ITOps, and Customer Support)
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills and success, not only developing software but also, growing and developing individuals on your team
- API design & implementation experience
- Understanding of architectural design patterns, open-source platforms, frameworks, and software engineering methodologies
- Experience developing innovative solutions that meet organizational needs and requirements
- Experience working within the Agile development methodology
- Knowledge of the types of organization served by Rave (state and local public safety, facilities / property management) is a plus
- Familiarity with Cloud platforms and services
