About KTA Super Stores
We owe our century of existence entirely to the people of Hawai‘i Island. From our modest beginnings in a 500-square-foot store in 1916, KTA Super Stores and our associates remain deeply rooted in a single, quiet philosophy: to humbly serve the community that sustains us.
Core Responsibilities
As a Meat Cutter, your primary responsibility is to ensure customer satisfaction by accurately cutting, trimming, grinding, and packaging various fresh and frozen meat, pork, poultry, and seafood products while adhering strictly to Department of Health sanitation guidelines. You also serve as an ambassador for our stores by providing courteous, pleasant, and patient service to every customer.
• Meat Processing & Preparation: Break down pig, beef, and lamb carcasses into individual cuts, and break down primals into steaks, roasts, and chops with minimal waste. Cut, trim, clean, and pack fresh fish, make seasoned poke, and handle reworks of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and seafood. Grind, slice, tenderize, and tray all meat and seafood products for wrapping and pricing.
• Department Operations & Merchandising: Set up display cases according to current sales, merchandise products, pull reject items, and mix marinade sauces as assigned. Receive, pack, wrap, price, and store freight promptly and properly using stock wagons, pallet jacks, or forklifts. Assist with monthly inventory, order merchandise, and troubleshoot department machinery.
• Sanitation & Maintenance: Maintain a safe, clean meat preparation room by following strict health and sanitation guidelines. Mix and use cleaning solutions safely, compact cardboard using the trash baler, refill supplies (meat trays, plastic containers), and discard debris properly.
• Customer & Team Engagement: Promptly and efficiently greet, help, and thank every customer with local hospitality. Answer incoming phone calls, assist with special orders or customer requests, provide accurate price/cut quotes, and collaborate effectively with co-workers and department supervisors.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
• Environment: Continuously work in a chilled room that may be wet, noisy, smelly, and extremely cold. Seldom work outdoors to receive freight or discard trash and boxes.
• Physical Effort: Continuous standing, walking, handling, and fine finger manipulation with good depth perception, color vision, and eye-hand coordination. Frequently lift and carry up to 100 lbs to receive freight and transport product from storage to cutting tables. Occasionally bend, squat, reach, and push/pull up to 1,000 lbs on a stock wagon. Seldom climb ladders or operate a forklift.
• Safety & PPE: Continuously wear a back support belt while performing all job duties. Frequently wear a protective wire mesh glove when using a knife. Maintain high mental alertness and attention to detail to operate cutting machinery safely.
