Required Skills & Experience
Strong hands-on AWS development and cloud platform experience. Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), ideally Terraform, AWS CDK, and/or CloudFormation. Hands-on experience configuring, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines. Experience designing and implementing distributed systems at production scale. Strong development skills using Node.js, Python, or another modern programming language, with Node.js preferred. Experience developing backend services, APIs, microservices, or shared platform capabilities. Strong understanding of modern software engineering, automated testing, and cloud-native development practices. Ability and willingness to quickly learn new programming languages, frameworks, and technologies. Ability to take an ambiguous architecture concept and independently turn it into a functioning technical solution.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Node.js / TypeScript development experience. OpenFGA and Fine-Grained Authorization (FGA). ReBAC / Relationship-Based Access Control. Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Rego. OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC). JWTs, token delegation, and token security. Authentication and authorization architecture. Experience working in an Enterprise Architecture organization. Experience building POCs/MVPs and transitioning them to production engineering teams.
Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Backend / Platform Engineer to join an Enterprise Architecture organization focused on turning strategic architecture concepts into working software. This is a highly hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys taking loosely defined technical challenges, rapidly building MVPs and proofs of concept, and establishing reusable patterns that other engineering teams can take into production. The engineer will design and build shared platform capabilities across areas such as Fine-Grained Authorization (FGA), identity and token services, APIs, and other emerging enterprise services. The ideal candidate has strong experience developing production-scale distributed systems on AWS, working with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD, and programming in Node.js, Python, or another modern language. Node.js experience is preferred, but the ability to quickly learn new languages and frameworks is equally important. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Design and build MVPs and technical prototypes that validate enterprise architecture strategies before broader production adoption. Develop backend services, APIs, and reusable platform components using Node.js, Python, or other modern programming languages. Build and deploy cloud-native solutions within AWS. Create and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using technologies such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation. Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes. Design and implement distributed systems, microservices, APIs, and event-driven solutions capable of operating at enterprise scale. Partner closely with enterprise architects, security engineers, infrastructure teams, product owners, and application development teams. Turn reference architectures and technical standards into secure, testable, working software. Evaluate new technologies through focused prototypes and provide recommendations based on performance, security, scalability, resiliency, and maintainability. Develop reusable code, automated tests, infrastructure templates, APIs, and implementation patterns that other development teams can leverage. Prototype platform capabilities involving authorization, identity, and token services, including Fine-Grained Authorization. Establish measurable success criteria for MVPs and demonstrate their readiness across functional, security, operational, performance, and resiliency requirements. Document architecture decisions, technical trade-offs, deployment processes, known limitations, and recommended next steps. Partner with the engineering team that will ultimately own each solution to ensure a smooth MVP-to-production handoff. Conduct knowledge-transfer sessions and provide short-term technical support during the transition to production ownership. Capture lessons learned and convert successful MVP approaches into repeatable enterprise engineering patterns.
