Job Description
A client of Insight Global is looking for a Network Engineer to bring on to their robotics and manufacturing company. This role will be 100% onsite in Salem, OR, and is slated to last 6 months, with extensions and conversion possible. The position will support, deploy, and optimize enterprise wired and wireless networking environments in a complex manufacturing and robotics setting. This role will focus on maintaining reliable, low-latency connectivity for manufacturing operations, robotic systems, teleoperations, R&D testing, and enterprise business functions.
The Network Engineer will partner closely with the local Salem IT team while helping execute broader network engineering initiatives under the guidance of a remote Staff Network Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Support, deploy, and optimize enterprise Wi-Fi networks (access points, controllers, cloud management platforms) tailored for complex environments supporting robot manufacturing, teleoperations (teleops) real-time video/control feeds, and high-throughput robot design and R&D testing.
- Mitigate Wi-Fi interference, packet loss, and roaming issues for mobile robotic systems; configure and manage cellular routers and cloud management systems for robust failover and edge connectivity across manufacturing facilities.
- Diagnose and resolve complex wired and wireless issues, including roaming failures, interference, authentication problems, and latency, using packet captures and spectrum analysis tools.
- Implement and support secure wireless access, including WPA3, 802.1X/RADIUS, and certificate-based authentication, in alignment with organizational security standards.
- Use network monitoring tools to track performance and availability, and maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, and runbooks.
- Partner daily with the local Salem IT team and execute high-level network engineering strategy under the guidance of the remote Chicago-based Staff Network Engineer.
