Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. 10+ years of relevant engineering experience; an advanced degree may substitute for a portion of experience. Demonstrated experience developing PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, equipment specifications, and detailed engineering/design packages. Hands-on experience with CAD/design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar, with the ability to personally create or modify engineering drawings. Experience designing or integrating piping, pumps, valves, vessels, instrumentation, fluid-handling systems, hydraulic systems, or skid-based process equipment. Experience supporting projects through multiple phases, including conceptual design, detailed design, fabrication/procurement, installation, startup, or commissioning.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience scaling chemical or manufacturing processes from R&D or pilot scale into production. Experience with modular skid design, process-equipment design, or automated manufacturing equipment. Experience working with instrumentation and controls (I&C) teams to integrate sensors, valves, controls, and process equipment. Experience conducting or supporting HAZOPs, PHAs, process-risk assessments, or other process-safety activities. Experience with process-modeling or simulation software such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, ChemCAD, or similar tools. Previous experience within advanced manufacturing, specialty chemicals, nuclear, energy, national laboratories, EPC/design engineering, or other highly regulated industrial environments.
Job Description
Insight Global We are seeking a Senior Chemical / Mechanical Design Engineer to support the scale-up, detailed design, and integration of advanced chemical processing and manufacturing systems. This engineer will take process concepts from early block-flow development through PFDs, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and detailed design while working across mechanical, process, electrical, instrumentation, and controls disciplines. The role will be highly hands-on and will involve designing and integrating fluid-handling systems, piping, pumps, valves, instrumentation, process equipment, and modular skid-based systems. The engineer will also support equipment specification and procurement, vendor coordination, fabrication, installation, commissioning, process-risk assessments, and the transition of processes from R&D and pilot scale into production. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced engineer who combines a strong chemical/process background with the mechanical design ability to personally create, review, and modify engineering drawings. Salary ranges from 80K-120K depending on experience.
