- Skill with hand and automotive tools, multimeters and soldering irons; oscilloscope and CAN analysis tools. ○ CAN bus diagnostics and CAN analysis tools
Job Description
We’re hiring a mid-level Engineering Technician to support hands-on development and prototyping work. This person will work closely with Senior/Staff Technicians and engineering to scale development builds, validate early build procedures, integrate hardware, and help turn prototypes into repeatable processes that can eventually be handed off to manufacturing.
This is not a traditional production technician role. A lot of the work will have incomplete or evolving instructions, so we need someone who can take loose direction, think critically, identify issues, propose practical solutions, and know when to escalate. The strongest candidates will be hands-on, adaptable, comfortable working across mechanical and electrical systems, and able to contribute in a fast-moving development environment.
- Build, modify and retrofit development vehicles and platforms based on evolving engineering direction, CAD and early-stage build documentation
- Install and integrate compute modules, sensors, low-voltage electrical components and other prototype hardware
- Tear down vehicle interiors and components as needed to route harnesses and install equipment cleanly without damaging existing systems
- Build, modify and retrofit basic wire harnesses, including crimping, stripping, connector work, pinouts and continuity checks
- Work closely with engineering to determine practical routing, mounting, serviceability and integration approaches
- Validate early build procedures and identify unclear, incomplete or impractical steps before they are transitioned to manufacturing
- Document as-built configurations, redlines, lessons learned and process changes; help develop and improve SOPs, work instructions and checklists
- Perform first-pass hardware bring-up and basic diagnostics to confirm sensors, compute and integrated systems are communicating correctly
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical integration issues and escalate problems with clear findings and proposed solutions
- Support multiple development builds and projects as priorities shift
- Provide feedback to engineering around manufacturability, serviceability and build efficiency
- Help establish tooling, equipment and workspace needs as the development environment continues to mature
- Work onsite 5 days/week in San Francisco
