Summary We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious individual to serve as a Substitute Bus Driver. This position is responsible for transporting students safely to and from school, as well as to various events and activities, on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt to varying schedules and routes.
Responsibilities
- Operate a school bus in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students while on the bus, including managing behavior and enforcing safety rules.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, students, and parents regarding schedules, routes, and any issues that may arise.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and incidents that occur during transport.
- Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, particularly those with special needs.
- Report any mechanical issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Be available for short-notice assignments and flexible with scheduling to accommodate the needs of the school district.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
- Clean driving record with no major violations or accidents in the past three years.
- Previous experience driving a bus or working with children preferred, but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening prior to employment.
- Availability to work on short notice and flexibility to cover various shifts as needed.
