Job Description
SAHARA Las Vegas is investing in a multi-year refresh of its HPE Aruba Networking-based infrastructure and is seeking a Network Engineer who wants to grow with it. This role is responsible for planning, staging, configuring, and deploying switching upgrades across the casino and resort, managing hardware RMAs, and helping modernize the network as new equipment is purchased. The Network Engineer will participate in technology evaluations, lab testing, and proof-of-concept work, with meaningful input into future architecture and platform decisions. The position is primarily focused on engineering, planning, operations, and project execution. The successful candidate must also be comfortable working hands-on in IDFs, MDFs, and network racks. The role provides opportunities to develop professional-level switching, routing, wireless, security, and network-automation skills through project work, mentoring, and advanced certification. Additional exposure includes Nutanix, VMware vCenter, Proxmox, and the deployment of the property’s next voice system. Job Focus
Focus includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Network Lifecycle & Upgrades · Plan, stage, configure, and deploy new switching hardware, replacing legacy equipment across the property. · Execute network upgrades throughout the casino and resort, including cutover planning, maintenance windows, rollback preparation, and post-change validation. · Perform work in accordance with gaming operations, regulatory, security, and change-management requirements. · Own hardware RMAs end to end, including failure diagnosis, vendor case management, replacement coordination, installation, and validation. · Maintain accurate records of network hardware, serial numbers, spares, warranties, licensing, and support status.
Engineering & Technology Evaluation · Participate in evaluating technologies and designs for upcoming network upgrades through research, lab testing, and proof-of-concept work. · Develop and present technical recommendations; input from this role will be considered in final technology and design decisions. · Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise switching environments, including VLANs, trunking, spanning tree, LACP, routing, QoS, and Power over Ethernet. · Monitor network health and performance and respond to incidents, alerts, and escalated trouble tickets. · Use network monitoring, packet-capture, logging, and diagnostic tools to investigate performance and connectivity issues.
Wireless, Security & Access · Assist with access point upgrades and support ongoing enterprise wireless operations. · Support Aruba ClearPass network access control, 802.1X, MAC authentication, guest access, and captive portal services. · Assist with Palo Alto Networks firewall policy, NAT, VPN, and troubleshooting changes in coordination with network leadership. · Follow established change-management, documentation, security, and compliance practices.
Infrastructure, Voice & Professional Growth · Gain exposure to and support virtualization platforms including Nutanix, VMware vCenter, and Proxmox. · Help plan and deploy the property’s next voice system, including QoS, voice VLANs, PoE, resiliency, and network readiness. · Develop professional-level switching, routing, wireless, security, and automation skills through project work, mentorship, and certification.
Hands-On Work & Documentation · Rack, cable, patch, label, and validate equipment in IDFs and MDFs; trace and repair cabling faults when needed. · Create and maintain network documentation, including rack elevations, port maps, topology diagrams, IP/VLAN records, configuration standards, and as-built records. Required Qualifications · Three or more years of network engineering or network administration experience, preferably in a hospitality, casino, or other 24/7 operational environment. · Current HPE Aruba Networking Certified Associate – Switching, Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, or a higher-level equivalent active certification from one of these vendors. · Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise switching platforms.
