Job Description
Conduct technical and business discovery across the client's Linux-based and other non-DB2 data repositories. Analyze schemas, filesystems, data structures, storage, data volumes, utilization, ownership, and data growth. Investigate unfamiliar repositories and establish what data exists, what it represents, where it comes from, and where it goes. Trace data lineage and upstream/downstream dependencies across applications, databases, files, interfaces, and other enterprise systems. Work with system administrators, application owners, infrastructure teams, and other technical stakeholders to gather and validate information. Identify the true technical and business owners of data where ownership is unclear. Work with policy/legal SMEs to understand retention requirements and how those policies apply to specific data repositories. Evaluate issues such as duplicate data, orphaned data, retention constraints, criticality, growth, and archive readiness. Help determine the business and technical complexity of archiving individual repositories. Translate technical evidence and policy requirements into clear inventory findings. Maintain detailed documentation for the approximately 10 repositories included in the initial discovery effort. Help score and prioritize repositories based on factors such as criticality, dependency complexity, data volume/growth, cost, retention constraints, and archival feasibility. Partner closely with the DB2/mainframe specialist where dependencies span platforms.
