Job Description
Insight Global is seeking an Operations Engineer to support a leading drilling organization in Houston, TX. This role is responsible for the design, analysis, execution, and field support of drilling rig capital projects and fleet upgrade initiatives. The engineer will work on a wide range of projects including mast and substructure upgrades, draw works modifications, setback capacity improvements, top drive track enhancements, BOP anchoring systems, high-pressure piping installations, choke manifold skids, and other rig equipment improvements aimed at increasing safety, reliability, and performance across the fleet. This is a hands-on engineering position that supports projects from concept through field deployment. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing structural and mechanical assessments, developing engineering solutions, creating and reviewing drawings, supporting fabrication and construction activities, verifying field installations, maintaining as-built documentation, and ensuring compliance with applicable engineering standards and certification requirements. The role requires regular interaction with operations teams, fabrication shops, equipment managers, vendors, OEMs, and field personnel to resolve equipment challenges, investigate field issues, and implement practical engineering solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with real-world field experience and is comfortable working between the office and rig environments. Candidates with prior experience on drilling rigs or heavy industrial equipment are highly preferred, as they bring an understanding of both the technical and operational realities of the field. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment are critical to success. This is a full-time position based in Houston with an expectation to work onsite five days per week.
