Job Description
Day to Day:
The Senior Protection & Control Engineer will support Westwood’s electric substation projects and take technical ownership of the P&C scope. This individual will be a hands-on engineer responsible for developing, reviewing, and checking protection and control designs while working closely with engineers, designers, and drafters. The role will also provide technical guidance to junior team members and support projects from design through construction. Develop and mark up P&C engineering drawings. Develop and review one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and I/O mapping. Perform and review P&C engineering studies. Review and check drawings for technical accuracy and completeness. Work directly with designers and drafters to ensure engineering markups are incorporated correctly. Provide technical oversight to designers and drafters assigned to projects. Take the technical lead on the P&C portion of assigned projects. Mentor and provide guidance to less-experienced P&C engineers. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines throughout project execution. Participate in project design reviews and technical discussions. Support site visits, field walkdowns, and construction activities as required. Ensure designs meet applicable engineering standards and QA/QC requirements.
Ideal Candidate:
Experienced P&C Engineer with 5+ years of true protection and control experience. Has worked extensively on utility/substation projects rather than primarily telecom or communications projects. Can clearly demonstrate experience with one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and I/O mapping. Ideally has experience working at 138 kV and 345 kV voltage levels. Comfortable being a hands-on engineer while also providing technical leadership to designers, drafters, and junior engineers. Comfortable working primarily from a Westwood office with some flexibility to work from home 1–2 days per week. Willing to travel periodically to project sites throughout the country. Looking for a long-term opportunity with the potential to convert to full-time employment.
