Lead Projects That Matter
Sellen Construction is looking for a Senior Project Manager to lead projects for our Advanced Manufacturing clients. This role is for an experienced construction leader who delivers complex work safely and profitably, builds lasting client relationships, and takes pride in developing the people around them.
The Opportunity
In partnership with the project Superintendent, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of construction projects that meet safety, quality, cost, risk management, and schedule requirements. You will own planning, estimating, execution of the project plan, and closeout.
You will also be the client's advocate inside Sellen. From pursuit and preconstruction through construction, closeout, and beyond, you will build a strong client orientation and represent the voice of the client. The relationships you build will lead to future opportunities for Sellen.
Together with your Superintendent, you will model leadership behaviors, set operating norms, and create a work environment that lives Sellen's values. You will lead a team and provide direction, resources, communication, feedback, coaching, and on-the-job learning.
We are looking for someone with the experience and versatility to lead a wide range of project sizes and types, and who brings initiative and curiosity to new market opportunities, unfamiliar project types, new clients, and evolving project leadership practices.
What You Will Do
Lead project delivery. You will know the project contract and documentation inside and out, and apply Sellen's policies, procedures, and Project Delivery Plan to manage the work. You will think strategically and long-range when planning and resourcing the project, and use sound judgment to build new solutions when they are needed. You will take ownership of every aspect of the project, anticipate challenges, and take the initiative to detect, define, and resolve conflicts that stand in the way of Sellen's commitments.
Manage risk. In partnership with your Superintendent, you will build and maintain a project Risk Register covering site safety, site operations, quality assurance, procurement of subcontracted work, use of Sellen's Warehouse and in-house resources, scheduling, cost forecasting, and labor. You will spot gaps or under-resourced activities early and close them, either personally or by bringing in the right resources.
Drive financial performance. You will budget, forecast, and manage project costs, produce profitability forecasts, and protect margins. You will keep your Project Executive informed with timely, transparent updates on project health and emerging risks.
Shape projects in preconstruction. You will lead or support preconstruction efforts, including estimates, means and methods, and design coordination. You will lead Target Value Delivery discussions, bring constructability insights to design conversations, and integrate specialized scopes such as Virtual Design and Construction, building systems expertise, sustainability, diverse subcontracting, and permitting.
Develop your team. You will partner with your Superintendent and Project Executive to staff the project and align the team on shared goals. You will make assignments, provide on-the-job learning, deliver regular performance feedback, and mentor Project Managers as they grow their skills and industry networks. You will hold transition meetings and ongoing conversations to understand each person's strengths, set goals and measure outcomes, and recommend recognition or development opportunities to your Project Executive.
Model Sellen's culture. You will set team norms rooted in servant leadership, respect, collaboration, and inclusion, and look after your team's safety, wellbeing, and engagement. When concerns arise, you will work with your Superintendent and Project Executive to resolve them quickly and communicate openly about issues affecting team culture and collaboration.
Build client relationships. You will understand your clients' values, objectives, and future project pipeline, and translate them into clear goals for your team. You will work with Project Executives and our Chief Strategy Officer on business development, keep Salesforce records current, and participate in targeted industry and community engagements that position Sellen as the builder of choice. You will balance your time and energy to deliver today's projects while pursuing future work.
