Job Title: Industrial WelderJob DescriptionThis role supports the construction of high-performance data centers by fitting and welding large industrial piping and structural steel to ASME Section IX standards. You will work in a hands-on environment, collaborating closely with mechanical, structural, electrical, and operations teams to complete welds on pipe, supports, and steel structures from initial construction through system turnover, helping build next-generation AI supercomputing infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Fit, tack, and weld large-bore industrial piping and structural steel, including pipe racks, platforms, supports, skids, and related assemblies, in accordance with drawings and ASME Section IX welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Lay out, cut, bevel, grind, and align joints, verifying fit-up, root opening, and reinforcement before and after completing welds.
- Read and interpret isometric, spool, and structural drawings, and work to weld maps, heat numbers, and rod-control or continuity requirements where applicable.
- Support the installation and hanging of strut, supports, hangers, and structural members, and assist with equipment setting and bolt-up to complete weld packages.
- Stage, move, and inventory pipe, fittings, structural members, filler metals, and tools, maintaining orderly laydown yards and work areas.
- Open and close work areas each shift, including setting up protection, serving as or supporting fire watch, managing hot-work permits, removing debris, segregating scrap, and resetting the area for the next crew.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE), hot-work procedures, and site rules, and avoid welding on live or unpurged systems without proper authorization.
- Report damaged materials, rejected welds, unsafe conditions, and drawing conflicts immediately to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
- Support punch-list completion, repair work, and non-destructive examination (NDE) hold-point activities through system turnover.
Essential Skills
- Journey-level industrial construction welding experience, typically 3+ years welding large industrial piping and/or structural steel, completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship, or equivalent military experience.
- Hands-on experience with GTAW (TIG) on stainless steel and/or SMAW (stick) on carbon steel.
- Current ASME Section IX welding qualification, such as 6G, in GTAW on stainless and/or SMAW on carbon, or the ability to pass a pre-employment weld test to ASME Section IX in the processes and positions used on site.
- AWS D1.1 structural welding qualification or equivalent.
- Proficiency in reading and working from isometric, spool, and structural drawings.
- Ability to safely operate welding machines, torches, grinders, and related hand and power tools.
- Strong safety mindset with willingness to follow site procedures, including hot-work permits and lockout/tagout (LOTO).
- Willingness to work at heights, outdoors, and on an active, evolving data center construction site.
- Experience welding large-bore process, mechanical, or utility piping and heavy structural members.
- Prior experience on data center, industrial, or heavy-civil construction sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Completion of a formal welding apprenticeship program or equivalent training, including military welding experience.
- Familiarity with weld maps, heat numbers, and rod-control or continuity requirements in industrial construction settings.
- Ability to maintain organized laydown yards and work areas to support efficient construction workflows.
- Comfort working collaboratively with mechanical, structural, electrical, and operations teams on complex projects.
