Position Overview
About this role UES is hiring a full-time Civil Engineer – Materials Testing in D’Iberville, Mississippi, near Biloxi on the Gulf Coast. This role combines engineering analysis with project-site work, giving you the opportunity to see how test results, site conditions, and engineering decisions affect construction. What you will actually do You will review test results, reports, maps, drawings, and site information to help plan engineering testing projects. Your responsibilities will include evaluating project costs and feasibility, preparing reports and specifications, coordinating testing schedules, and using engineering software to develop project documents. You will also visit construction sites to review progress and check that work follows testing plans, specifications, and safety standards. Depending on the assignment, you may help direct site activities and communicate findings to the project team. Required and preferred qualifications The posting requires a bachelor’s degree in civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering, one to two years of related experience or training, and EIT certification with the ability to earn a PE license. A PE license is preferred; EIT candidates are accepted. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are essential. You should be comfortable documenting findings, managing details, collaborating with others, and traveling to project sites. Knowledge of construction methods, site safety, and environmental regulations is helpful. What success looks like A practical focus during your first few months would be learning the team’s testing procedures, reporting standards, and safety expectations. Success means producing accurate work, meeting agreed deadlines, communicating concerns promptly, and becoming increasingly dependable in both field and office assignments. Where and how you will work The position involves field and office work, with travel up to approximately 70%. Travel may be planned or required on short notice. Site work can involve outdoor conditions and operational environments, where following safety procedures and wearing required PPE are essential. Candidates must already live within reasonable commuting distance of D’Iberville. Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Recruiting can explain specific work hours, overtime expectations, travel arrangements, and any flexibility. Who you will work with and how you can grow You will collaborate with the engineering and testing team and coordinate with people involved in project delivery. The exact reporting relationship and any supervisory duties should be discussed during the interview. This opportunity can help you build experience in technical analysis, reporting, site coordination, and engineering judgment. EIT candidates can gain relevant project exposure as they work toward PE licensure. Ask about available mentorship, training, paid certifications, and advancement opportunities. Why consider this opportunity? If you enjoy applying engineering knowledge to practical construction challenges, this role offers variety, meaningful responsibility, and industry-leading benefits. It is a strong fit for someone who wants to understand both the technical findings and what is happening on the project site. The person who will succeed is curious, dependable, safety-minded, and attentive to detail. They ask questions, communicate clearly, adapt when project needs change, and take ownership of their work.
