Position Overview

Lead the Team That Keeps Wichita Projects Moving Your Field Experience. Your Leadership. Your Next Opportunity.

Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) is looking for a hands-on Field Supervisor to lead and support our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) operations in Wichita, Kansas.

We're seeking an experienced field professional who knows what it takes to keep construction projects moving, technicians supported, and field operations running efficiently.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned CMT technician or field leader ready to take the next step in their career. Whether you've already supervised a team or have become the go-to person others rely on in the field, we want to hear from you.

We're looking for more than technical expertise. We value leadership, accountability, strong communication, and the ability to develop a dependable team. Industry certifications are a plus, but practical field experience, sound judgment, and a commitment to safety are what matter most. Why This Role Matters Our Wichita team supports construction materials testing and inspection services across a variety of projects throughout the region. As project demands evolve, we're focused on strengthening our field operations, developing our technicians, and ensuring our teams have the resources and leadership they need to succeed. As Field Supervisor, you'll be a key part of that effort. You'll work closely with project managers, field technicians, and branch leadership to keep daily operations organized, maintain quality standards, and help build a team that takes pride in its work. This isn't a desk-only leadership position. We need someone who understands the field, can make decisions when challenges arise, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves when the team needs support. What You'll Do

  • Lead & Develop Your Team: Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and hands-on training to CMT field technicians at various experience levels.
  • Keep Operations Moving: Assist with daily scheduling, staffing, dispatching, and resource coordination to meet project demands across the Wichita market.
  • Make Safety a Priority: Promote safe work practices, reinforce company safety standards, and lead by example.
  • Manage Field Readiness: Help oversee company vehicles, testing equipment, supplies, and other resources to ensure technicians are prepared for their assignments.
  • Support Technical Growth: Monitor training needs, certifications, and opportunities to help technicians advance their skills and careers.
  • Partner With Leadership: Work closely with project managers and branch leadership to address operational challenges, improve efficiency, and maintain client satisfaction.
  • Stay Connected to the Field: Provide technical guidance and step in to assist with field testing and inspections when needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong hands-on experience in Construction Materials Testing (CMT), construction inspection, or a closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of field testing activities involving soils, concrete, asphalt, and construction materials.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, whether through formal supervision, mentoring, training, or serving as a senior field resource.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple projects, priorities, and team needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Experience coordinating technicians, equipment, or daily field operations is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with industry certifications such as ACI, KDOT, or other relevant testing credentials is a plus.
  • A commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and developing others.

Responsibilities

  • Lead routine field tests and inspections of soil, concrete, asphalt, steel and/or wood framing at job sites.
  • Determine and reinforce code and job specification compliance for, but not limited to, structural concrete, spray-applied fireproofing, pre-stressed and post-tension concrete tendons, etc.
  • Compile and present detailed and accurate reports, diagrams, and findings.
  • Operate and maintain a motor vehicle, including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Communicate with dispatch, engineers, and/or field supervisors regarding job status.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to protect oneself and others in the work environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a completed welding certificate program or vocational training.
  • 5+ years of experience, valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record, and basic computer literacy.
  • Active International Code Council (ICC) Certifications: Masonry, Soils, Spray-Applied Fireproofing, Post?Tension, Concrete, etc. or EIT (Engineer-in-Training) licensure. CWI certification, preferred.
  • Strong mathematical, time management, and problem-solving skills with a focus on quality.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret blueprints, procedures, manuals, technical documents, and reports.

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires moderate travel, approximately up to 40% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on-site work.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position primarily works in an outdoor work environment, regularly exposed to varying field conditions, including:

  • Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, fields, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris.
  • Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments.
  • Exposure to environmental elements including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions. The physical requirements for this position may include and are not limited to:
  • Ability to lift and/or carry 35 to 75 lbs. up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion.
  • Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate equipment for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment.
  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections.
  • Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate in noisy environments and with project teams.
  • Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vison, depth vision, and ability to focus) smell, hear, touch (use hands to reach climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit).
