About the role and team
Security at Uber is about enabling safe and secure innovation while protecting a global community that spans the digital and physical worlds. As a Senior Security Engineer, you will join a team responsible for the foundational trust of our ecosystem - from securing multi-cloud architectures to scaling identity governance for our global workforce. You won't just be managing tools; you will be architecting the next generation of security operations.
This is a high-stakes, fast-moving environment where the primary objective is to enable Uber’s technical ambitions while maintaining the highest standards of protection. You will navigate the "messy" reality of legacy environments and technical debt, turning complexity into robust, automated security baselines. This role requires a technically curious leader who thrives in ambiguity, stays calm under pressure, and is motivated by the challenge of modernizing security at an unparalleled scale.
What you’ll do
• Design and maintain robust security architectures across global cloud platforms and endpoint systems, ensuring performance and scale cannot be separated.
• Lead initiatives to modernize security operations, leveraging automation and analytics to detect threats and automate risk-based decisions.
• Navigate and optimize complex identity workflows and access management platforms to ensure high availability and seamless security for the global workforce.
• Proselytize "Security-as-Code" by automating provisioning, access reviews, and policy enforcement through Python, Go, or Terraform.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, and Infrastructure teams to embed security best practices from initial design to production.
• Serve as a technical mentor and escalation point, proactively identifying systemic risks and implementing durable, high-impact technical solutions.
Basic Qualifications
• 6+ years of experience in security engineering, IAM operations, or cloud security within a large-scale enterprise environment.
• Proven ability to solve complex, ill-defined problems that span multiple related areas or projects.
• Experience managing the end-to-end delivery of security solutions, including threat modeling and productionization.
• Expertise in making sound engineering trade-offs, considering both short-term velocity and long-term architectural stability.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or Ruby for automating security-as-code and building internal security tools.
• Advanced experience with major cloud platforms and containerization technologies like Kubernetes.
• Strong leadership traits with a track record of mentoring engineers and building strategic relationships across organizations.
• Deep knowledge of modern authentication protocols and industry-standard security frameworks.
