American Residential Services (ARS®/Rescue Rooter®) is one of the nation’s largest providers of heating, air conditioning, indoor air quality, plumbing, drain cleaning, electrical, and sewer services for residential and light commercial customers, operating through a nationwide network of company-owned locations.
Formed in 1980, ARS grew by bringing together trusted local and regional service companies and later joined with Rescue Rooter, a plumbing brand founded in 1975, under shared ownership by ServiceMaster in the late 1990s. Today, ARS/Rescue Rooter is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, with locations across 24 states and Washington, DC, delivering essential services to homes and businesses nationwide.
ARS/Rescue Rooter is known for its focus on reliable service, skilled professionals, and consistent standards across its network. Specialists and comfort advisors receive ongoing training and background screening, and all work is supported by the company’s Exceptional Service Guarantee, which reflects a commitment to addressing customer concerns and maintaining high service standards. If customers are dissatisfied, the company works to resolve issues and make things right.
ARS/Rescue Rooter continues to grow by partnering with and acquiring well-regarded home service providers and working closely with leading suppliers and retailers. In 2020, GI Partners made a majority investment in ARS, alongside existing investor Charlesbank Capital Partners and company management, to support continued growth, innovation, and long-term improvements in customer experience.
Community Service
ARS/Rescue Rooter supports communities through its company-wide ARS Cares initiative, which provides free HVAC systems and water heaters to selected community heroes. The company also supports organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Tim Tebow Foundation’s Night to Shine, and contributes to a range of local charities across its operating locations.
