About the Role:
Synergy is seeking a highly skilled DevSecOps Engineer to lead infrastructure and deployment modernization efforts across our US Coast Guard portfolio. This role will serve as a technical cornerstone for multiple programs operating within the Contracting Writing System (CWS) ecosystem.
Primary Responsibilities:
- The primary purpose of this role is to design, implement, and govern robust Software Factories and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, ensuring the secure, rapid, and highly available delivery of critical procurement and contract management software. You will act as a strategic technical advisor, driving DevSecOps maturity and cloud adoption across multiple enterprise-scale programs.
- Enterprise DevOps Architecture: Architect, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available CI/CD pipelines and Software Factories that support multiple distributed teams working within the overarching CWS ecosystem.
- DevSecOps Integration: Embed security-first principles into the software development lifecycle by integrating automated vulnerability scanning, static/dynamic code analysis (SAST/DAST), and compliance checks directly into the deployment pipelines.
- Cross-Program Standardization: Establish and enforce unified deployment standards, artifact management protocols, and configuration management practices across multiple government agency programs, ensuring alignment with our CMMI-Dev Level 3 and ISO certifications.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Lead complex troubleshooting efforts for infrastructure and deployment bottlenecks, while actively mentoring engineering teams on modern cloud-native architectures, containerization (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker), and automated testing frameworks.
- Strategic Advisory: Serve as a subject matter expert in executive discussions with federal stakeholders, demonstrating how modern DevOps practices reduce cycle times, minimize technical debt, and ensure continuous compliance with federal mandates.
Required Qualifications:
- 1-2+ years of relevant experience in DevOps, systems administration, software development, cloud engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience working with Linux and/or Windows Server environments.
- Experience with at least one programming language or application development framework.
- Experience with Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting and automation.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services and basic cloud infrastructure concepts.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
- Familiarity with Git and source control workflows.
- Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts and automated software deployment.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts including DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, ports, and firewalls.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to learn unfamiliar technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to Kubernetes, EKS, OpenShift, Helm, or Argo CD.
- Experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or similar CI/CD tooling.
- Familiarity with Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or similar automation tools.
- Basic SQL/database experience.
- Relevant AWS, Azure, Linux, or Security+ certification.
Education Requirements:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Systems.
Citizenship & Clearance Requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a federal Secret clearance (or higher). Active clearance is highly preferred.
