Company Overview
Sunrock Distributed Generation is a developer, long-term operator, and financier of solar assets deployed on the properties of businesses, municipalities, and nonprofits across the USA. Leveraging an unmatched network of trusted partners and installers, tech-enabled operational efficiency, and a proprietary underwriting method, we design solar and distributed generation solutions tailored to the needs of organizations previously unable to access the benefits of solar energy. Our approach enables businesses to maximize the benefits of solar and distributed energy solutions, regardless of project size. We offer Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with zero upfront investment, positioning us as the trusted platform for commercial solar DG projects.
Role Description
Sunrock is seeking a Project Development Director to lead the development of its commercial and industrial (C&I) solar and energy storage portfolio. The Director will oversee the Project Development team and be accountable for advancing projects from LOI through NTP.

Responsibilities
- Lead project development for a portfolio of ground-mount, rooftop, and carport solar and storage projects from Letter of Intent through Notice to Proceed, including:
• Strategy: Establish project priorities, development plans, stage gates, and resource allocation across the portfolio to achieve company objectives.
• Technical development: Oversee system design, equipment strategy, interconnection, permitting, environmental diligence, and site control.
• Risk management: Identify and mitigate technical, commercial, regulatory, financial, and schedule risks and determine appropriate paths forward for challenged projects.
• Portfolio management: Own project budgets, schedules, forecasts, development milestones, and capital requirements, and ensure timely advancement of projects toward NTP.
• Project economics & financing: Protect project economics as development assumptions evolve and lead project approvals, capital requests, financing diligence, and preparation for project or fund closings.
• Contracting: Oversee negotiation and execution of key project agreements with customers, landowners, utilities, development partners, and vendors.
- Lead the Project Development team and manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution, including:
• Team leadership: Manage Project Development Managers and other development team members, setting priorities and driving accountability for project outcomes.
• Cross-functional coordination: Work closely with Business Development, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Construction, and Asset Management to resolve issues and ensure successful project execution and handoff.
• Relationship management & reporting: Build and maintain strong external relationships, serve as an escalation point for complex matters, and present portfolio status, risks, and key decisions to senior leadership.
• Market & process strategy: Translate changes in market conditions, incentives, regulation, and industry practices into development strategy while improving processes, tools, and reporting standards across the portfolio.
