We are seeking an experienced Vehicle System Integration Engineer with a focus on Software Cybersecurity Testing to contribute to system integration, verification, and validation activities for next-generation vehicle controllers and software platforms.
The next-generation vehicle architecture integrates advanced software capabilities across High-Performance Computers (HPCs) and Zonal ECUs, enabling highly automated driving, advanced connectivity, and centralized vehicle computing. The individual will be responsible for validating the implementation and functionality of automotive cybersecurity features across multiple ECU domains, ensuring robust protection of vehicle software, communication interfaces, and critical vehicle functions.
The primary focus of this role is to integrate and validate cybersecurity software features across multidomain HPC and Zonal ECU platforms using hardware-based system benches and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments. This includes flashing and configuring ECU software, executing cybersecurity test scenarios, validating ECU interactions, and identifying potential security weaknesses through requirements-based testing and system-level analysis.
The engineer will work on validating embedded software cybersecurity mechanisms such as secure boot, secure software updates, ECU identity and authentication, key management and negotiation, Hardware Security Module (HSM) functionality, diagnostic security events, software cybersecurity lifecycle mechanisms, inventory management, and protection of critical vehicle data.
The role requires strong hands-on experience with automotive debugging and test automation tools, including Lauterbach Debugger, Vector CANoe/CAPL, Vector VT System, and dSPACE HIL platforms. The engineer will develop and execute test cases to verify cybersecurity functionality, assess system behavior under normal and abnormal operating conditions, analyze test results, debug failures, and collaborate with software development teams to resolve identified issues.
The job also entails reviewing cybersecurity and system requirements, developing test strategies and detailed test cases, creating automation scripts using CAPL, Python, and other scripting languages, and supporting continuous integration and automated test execution wherever applicable.
The individual will work closely with software architecture, embedded software development, system integration, functional domain, and cybersecurity teams to ensure cybersecurity requirements are correctly implemented and validated across the vehicle platform.
We are looking for a highly motivated engineer with a strong background in automotive embedded software, system integration, and cybersecurity verification. The candidate should be comfortable working from early software development stages through system validation, challenging software implementations, identifying integration gaps, and ensuring end-to-end cybersecurity functionality across interconnected vehicle controllers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform system integration and cybersecurity verification of multidomain HPC and Zonal ECU platforms.
- Integrate ECU software, perform flashing and configuration, and execute cybersecurity test scenarios on physical system benches and HIL environments.
- Develop and execute requirements-based test cases for automotive software cybersecurity features, including secure boot, secure update, ECU authentication, key management, HSM, diagnostic security, and data protection mechanisms.
- Validate cybersecurity functionality across ECU boundaries, including interactions between HPC, Zonal controllers, and other vehicle domains.
- Use Lauterbach Debugger, Vector CANoe/CAPL, Vector VT System, and dSPACE HIL systems for test execution, debugging, and system-level analysis.
- Develop CAPL and Python scripts to automate cybersecurity test scenarios and improve test coverage and execution efficiency.
- Validate communication and diagnostic interfaces over Automotive Ethernet, CAN, and LIN networks.
- Analyze software behavior, debug integration issues, investigate test failures, and collaborate with development teams to drive issue resolution.
- Review system and cybersecurity requirements, identify coverage gaps, and ensure traceability between requirements, test cases, and test results.
- Support automated test execution and integration into CI pipelines.
- Participate in design and architecture reviews to provide feedback on cybersecurity feature implementation, testability, and system-level integration.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, embedded software, system architecture, and domain teams throughout the software development and validation lifecycle.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in automotive embedded software, system integration, ECU testing, or vehicle network development. Including a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in automotive cybersecurity feature verification, requirements-based testing, or embedded software security testing.
- Strong understanding of automotive E/E architecture, distributed ECU systems, and embedded software integration.
- Experience testing automotive cybersecurity mechanisms such as secure boot, secure flashing/software updates, ECU authentication, key management, HSM, and diagnostic security.
- Hands-on experience with automotive debugging and test tools such as Lauterbach Debugger, Vector CANoe/CAPL, Vector VT System, and dSPACE HIL systems.
- Strong programming and scripting skills in CAPL and Python; knowledge of C/C++ is an advantage.
- Solid understanding of automotive communication protocols, including CAN (ISO 11898-1), LIN (ISO 17987-1), and Automotive Ethernet.
- Basic understanding of SOME/IP and automotive diagnostic protocols (UDS).
- Experience with requirements-driven testing, test case development, execution, defect reporting, and test result analysis.
- Familiarity with test management and requirements management tools such as DOORS Next Generation, IBM RTC, and Jira.
- Understanding of software development, system integration, and validation processes in the automotive industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cybersecurity testing of Qualcomm-based or other automotive HPC platforms.
- Experience with zonal architecture and integration of centralized vehicle computing platforms.
- Understanding of automotive cybersecurity standards such as ISO/SAE 21434 and UNECE R155.
