Role Summary
Roda is seeking a dedicated Technician Trainer to join our rapidly growing team and deliver exceptional experiences for our customers. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, professional environment and has a genuine passion for maintaining and enhancing vehicle safety and performance, and educating those learning to do the same. The Technician Trainer builds and runs the program that turns new hires into confident, Roda-standard technicians and keeps experienced technicians sharp. You will onboard new technicians, coach on the shop floor, close skill gaps, and document how we do the work.
This is a hands-on role. You will spend most of your time in the bays alongside technicians, not in a classroom, and you will be the go-to expert when a job gets difficult. A trainer is not simply a high-performing technician. A mentor is a teacher, role model, and quality gate whose actions directly shape the future capability, culture, and reputation of the service department.
Onboarding
- Run a structured onboarding program for new technicians covering safety, shop procedures, tools and equipment, and Roda's service standards.
- Assess each technician's skills on arrival and build an individual development plan.
- Deliver hands-on training in maintenance, diagnostics, brakes, suspension, electrical, and HVAC, sized to each technician's level.
- Train technicians on our shop systems: repair orders, inspection reports, photo and video documentation, and time tracking.
Standards and documentation
- Write and maintain standard operating procedures, checklists, and quick-reference guides for common jobs.
- Keep a training record and skills matrix for every technician.
- Track manufacturer updates, technical service bulletins, and new vehicle technology (hybrid, EV, ADAS) and fold them into training.
Training Program
- Supervision, Safety & Quality Control
- Ensure all apprentice work is performed safely and according to dealership and OEM standards.
- Maintain close supervision until apprentices are approved for independent tasks.
- Review apprentice inspections, torque procedures, road tests, and documentation.
- Prevent apprentices from performing tasks beyond their authorized level.
- Apprentice Skill Development
- Provide hands-on instruction aligned with the Roda way.
- Demonstrate correct repair, diagnostic, inspection, and documentation procedures.
- Break work into logical steps and explain both what to do and why it matters.
- Gradually increase apprentice responsibility based on demonstrated competence.
- Coaching, Feedback & Evaluation
- Provide regular, constructive feedback focused on improvement-not punishment.
- Correct errors respectfully and use mistakes as teaching opportunities.
- Conduct informal daily check-ins and participate in scheduled progress reviews.
- Identify stalled progress early and escalate concerns to leadership.
- Progress Tracking & Documentation
- Observe apprentice performance directly before approving skill sign-offs.
- Accurately document completed competencies and readiness milestones.
- Participate in formal evaluations and progression decisions.
- Support certification opportunities and training requirements where applicable.
Professional & Cultural Leadership
- Model professionalism, accountability, and respect at all times.
- Reinforce shop standards over shortcuts or speed.
- Support a learning-focused environment where questions are encouraged.
- Represent the apprenticeship program positively to the entire shop team.
Career growth
- Support technicians in preparing for ASE certifications.
- Recommend technicians for advancement based on demonstrated skills.
- Work with the shop lead and Parts team so training reflects how the shop actually runs.
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years as an automotive technician, with strong diagnostic skills across makes and models.
- ASE Master Technician certification, or the ability to earn it within 12 months.
- Experience training, mentoring, or leading other technicians.

- Comfort with scan tools, digital service information, and shop management software.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
