Rocketdyne is looking for a Quality Calibration Technician to calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair Measuring and Test Equipment (M&TE), Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE), and instrumentation in laboratory and on-site field environments. This person will apply technical expertise and metrology principles to verify equipment performance against established specifications and ensure accurate, reliable measurements.
Key Responsibilities
- Calibrate, inspect, adjust, maintain, and repair instruments and test equipment according to established procedures and standards.
- Troubleshoot equipment faults using independent judgment, circuit analysis, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Apply metrology principles, including linearity, hysteresis, and bias, along with algebra, scientific notation, and metric/Imperial unit conversions.
- Create and maintain calibration records, test results, maintenance logs, and certificates.
- Develop, update, and execute calibration procedures; recommend process improvements.
- Coordinate calibration schedules, repairs, specifications, and tolerances with equipment owners, internal teams, vendors, and customers.
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality, industry, and regulatory requirements.
- Train employees on equipment use and care, and manage calibration equipment, supplies, and spare parts.
Technical Experience Demonstrated calibration and metrology experience across multiple measurement disciplines, including:

- Temperature and humidity: Liquid-in-glass thermometers, PRTs, thermistors, thermocouples, infrared thermometers, data loggers, transmitters, fluid baths, dry-block calibrators, and environmental chambers.
- Electrical: Digital multimeters, process and multifunction calibrators, conductivity meters, frequency standards, resistance standards and decade boxes, current clamps and shunts, power supplies, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.
- Flow: Flowmeters, rotameters, anemometers, flow standards, laminar flow elements, and thermal mass flow instruments.
- Dimensional and mechanical: Micrometers, calipers, pin and go/no-go gauges, vision measurement systems, CMMs, torque wrenches, load cells, height gauges, and drop gauges.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated experience applying calibration and metrology principles across multiple measurement disciplines.
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. Person status.
- Ability to satisfy applicable federal government requirements for access to government information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four or more years of experience as a Calibration Instrumentation Technician, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Associate’s degree in electronics technology or a related discipline strongly desired.
- Relevant college coursework and/or ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) certification.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following:
- Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratories (PMEL).
- ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI Z540.1/Z540.3, ISO 9001, and NCSL Recommended Practices.
- Measurement uncertainty (ISO GUM), Test Uncertainty Ratio (TUR), and Test Accuracy Ratio (TAR).
- Repeatability and reproducibility, Gauge R&R, and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
- Statistics, quality control charts, and Out-of-Tolerance (OOT) investigations and impact analysis.
Desired Skills
- Proficiency with calibration tools, test equipment, and software.
- Strong understanding of electronics, mechanics, and instrumentation.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and time-management skills.
- Attention to detail, accurate documentation, and the ability to work independently.
- Proactive approach to quality assurance and continuous improvement.
